Nestle Aims to Create New Goods for Those Who Take Weight-Loss Medications

Nestle Aims to Create New Goods

By utilizing artificial intelligence and nutritional science to create goods targeted at the millions of people who use medications like Ozempic and Wegovy, Nestle hopes to transform the growth of GLP-1 weight-loss medications from a danger into an economic opportunity.

Investor concerns that appetite-suppressive medications could permanently lower demand for packaged foods, snacks, and beverages have been heightened by the quick uptake of medications manufactured by Novo Nordisk (NOVOb.CO) and Eli Lilly (LLY.N).

According to Nestle, the medications are also opening up a new market for goods made to deal with the negative effects of drastic weight loss.

Nestle is utilizing AI and other technologies to analyze clinical research, find food pairings, and create products specifically for GLP-1 users, Chief Technology Officer Stefan Palzer told Reuters.

“With the portfolio, we are in a good position. For our business, it’s a great opportunity,” he stated.

Reuters was handed presentation materials that described the negative impacts of rapid weight loss, such as muscle loss and the removal of facial fat known as “Ozempic face,” as well as areas where Nestle thinks its products might help.

Eli Lilly’s Mounjaro and Zepbound, as well as Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy and Ozempic, dominate the GLP-1 market.

According to Boston Consulting Group, 16 million Americans currently take GLP-1 medications; by the end of the decade, this number is predicted to increase significantly.

In response, Nestle has used AI to speed up research, product development, and customer analysis while creating goods specifically designed to meet the needs of people using weight-loss drugs.

According to Palzer, Nestle’s experts have been researching the effects of fast weight loss and creating solutions to assist customers in controlling them.

Large amounts of clinical research are being processed by the company utilizing AI methods to find nutrient combinations that could support nutritional intake, hydration, and muscle health.

Nestle has started incorporating collagen protein into products sold under the Vital Proteins brand in order to address issues related to the health of the skin, hair, and nails that are associated with rapid weight loss.
