Madhya Pradesh Police Bars Uploading Confidential Documents on ChatGPT 

The Madhya Pradesh Police social media guidelines 2026 have introduced tighter rules for how police personnel use social media and artificial intelligence tools. The 24-point guidelines prohibit officers and employees from uploading confidential government documents or security-sensitive information to platforms such as ChatGPT and Gemini. 

Issued by Director General of Police Kailash Makwana, the Madhya Pradesh Police social media guidelines 2026 cover Facebook, WhatsApp, X, Instagram, YouTube and other online platforms. The instructions come as police personnel increasingly use digital and AI-based tools in their work. 

Under the new AI tools restrictions for police personnel, documents that must remain confidential under government rules or contain sensitive security information cannot be scanned, screenshotted or shared online. The same information cannot be uploaded to AI platforms including ChatGPT and Gemini. 

The guidelines also restrict the disclosure of sensitive police operations. Personnel have been instructed not to reveal details or locations of sensitive assignments online and to switch off location and geo-tagging features while using social media from sensitive workplaces. 

The Madhya Pradesh Police social media guidelines 2026 also place limits on reels, photographs, videos and audio clips recorded while wearing police uniforms. Content showing weapons training, drills, firing practice, raids or other sensitive operations cannot be posted or livestreamed. 

Separate rules cover personal publicity and monetisation. Police personnel cannot use social media for paid promotions or income without prior government approval, including through accounts created under their own names, relatives’ names or pseudonyms. The guidelines also restrict the promotion of personal businesses, products and services. 

The AI tools restrictions for police personnel form part of wider instructions on professional conduct online. The guidelines prohibit the circulation of rumours or unverified material and restrict unauthorised departmental social media pages or groups. They also direct personnel to use official channels for departmental achievements and decisions. 

The order further places restrictions on political party symbols and certain forms of online commentary concerning government policies, departmental functioning and sensitive matters. The Madhya Pradesh Police social media guidelines 2026 are to be communicated across police stations, armed units, training institutions, headquarters and other police divisions.
