Ford To Move Production of Some Lincoln Models from China To US
Ford’s CEO told Reuters on Wednesday that Ford Motor (F.N.) has new plans to shift manufacture of some Lincoln models from China to the United States starting in 2030. The CEO said the move was challenging but essential to bolstering the U.S. auto manufacturing base.
Imported electric and gasoline-powered vehicles from China are subject to high taxes. Ford acknowledged that the Lincoln Nautilus, the primary car it imports from China, is subject to a 52.5% duty in the United States.
Regarding the tariffs, Ford CEO Jim Farley stated, “We made this decision as soon as the policy of the administration was set.” “We knew exactly what they wanted to do, and we knew exactly what it meant for Ford,” Farley and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated in a joint interview.
Although the business would not reveal where they will be made, Farley stated that the U.S.-made Lincolns would be sold in the domestic market as part of a major push to scale up output.
“Ford has an advantage,” Lutnick continued. There is an advantage to domestic manufacturing.
General Motors, a crosstown competitor, has declared that it will begin producing its Buick Envision in the United States from China in 2028.

The Connected Vehicle Rule, which prohibits some Chinese hardware and technology in American cars, has placed limitations on manufacturers in addition to tariffs. Although he cited tariffs as the primary motivator, Farley claimed that both rules forced Ford to make the choice.
