Business Leaders Turn to M&A for Market Capture in 2026

Business Leaders Turn to M&A

Managers in business across the globe are turning to Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) as their main strategy to seize new markets and grow in 2026. Data from different surveys indicate that almost 40% of top level executives consider M&A as a fundamental means of growth, compared with only 30% in 2025, since pure internal growth stays challenging due to scarce credit and people spending carefully.

The trend of transformation continues to change the mindset of business leaders as well. Whereas previously they merely thought about how to conquer the market by lowering prices and enhancing marketing efforts, at present most companies are on the lookout for strategic acquisitions in rapidly developing segmentssuch as AI-powered software, cybersecurity products, and renewable energy facilitiesto gain scale and secure niche markets.

Above all, young and fresh entrepreneurs are driven by exit events: the startup business models are increasingly acquisition-oriented and the strategies of new ventures are aligned with the portfolios of large companies. These are the sectors where companies from large capitalization are taking over the small and innovative companies to acquire instantly the knowledge, the data and the local customer bases rather than building them over years. Technology, healthcare, and green energy are the sectors where the largest firms are not internally developing new products but acquiring the real innovators.
